Executive summary

This Strategic Plan for 2025–2030 is a living document intended to guide our activity and annual priorities in key areas of focus, while keeping our efforts directed toward continuous goals. It was developed through a structured process that created space for many contributors (~ 30 people) to provide direct input.  

Because we have dual status as a university research center and a non-regulatory state agency, emphasis was given to both areas of responsibility, and to support for these areas as it affects all members in our research community.  

The goals in this strategic plan are continuous, and the strategies are the means we will use to achieve the goals that will grow and serve the research community and those impacted by our work. Initiatives are actions we plan to take each year to keep our goals in focus throughout our work.  Here is a summary of our goals and our long-term ambitions for the realms of our work covered so far. The plan includes initiatives for the current year, followed by those started in years prior for the purpose of tracking our accomplishments and learning from unsuccessful attempts.  

As we continue to develop this guiding document, we will include plans for the KU Field Station, which we manage, and for fundraising.
