Research support 2022

In 2022, our researchers brought 32 new awards to KU totaling $3.2 million. Other continuing awards totaled more than $7.2 million, bringing total funding administered by our research center to more than $10 million.

Our scientists serving as principal investigators (PIs) or co-investigators (co-PIs) also had more than $5 million in active grant funding administered through other units at KU. Thus, our researchers were PIs or co-PIs on more than $15 million in grant funding at KU in 2022. Of special note, several scientists continued to manage and lead numerous projects associated with the multi-year NSF EPSCoR Track-1 $20 million award to KU’s Office of Research.

The National Science Foundation is consistently our largest grantor by far, providing 75 percent of the $3.2 million in new award funding this year. Funding from the State of Kansas is used to inform many issues about water quality and quantity in reservoirs, the role of land use in recharging the High Plains aquifer, and mapping and quantifying habitats across Kansas. Other notable funding sources include other states and not-for-profit foundations.
