Our scientists, including students, are routinely recognized for outstanding work. The list below covers selected awards received in calendar year 2022.

Jim Bever

  • Received the Eminent Mycorrhiza Researcher award from the International Society of Mycorrhiza “for his contribution to the mycorrhizal research field, especially his work on plant-soil feedbacks, and the role of mycorrhizas in ecosystems and in prairie restoration.”



Sharon Billings

  • Named University Distinguished Professor by KU.
  • One of three KU faculty members named as fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) (564 fellows from 24 scientific disciplines were named fellows in 2022).
  • Received the 2022 Byron A. Alexander Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award, presented by the KU College of Graduate Affairs.



Jude Kastens

  • Part of a team of agricultural economics faculty members and extension staff at Kansas State University chosen for the Outstanding Team Award by K-State Research and Extension. The team gave a series of monthly educational webinars and other events that “provided a rapid and ongoing response to the Ukraine conflict and other economic events that helped producers and other stakeholders continue to function profitably and make wise, informed decisions in an era of volatile input and output prices and uncertain economic circumstances.”

     

D. Peterson

  • Remote sensing Pecora award: AmericaView was presented the 2021 William T. Pecora Group award, a prestigious honor in the remote sensing research and education community. Peterson is the lead investigator and coordinator for KansasView, the AmericaView member in this state.



Dan Reuman

  • Humboldt Research Award for 2022, a €60,000 prize to honor international scientists in any field for their outstanding research record.
  • James S. McDonnell Foundation Complex Systems Scholar, James S. McDonnell Foundation.

Christopher Rogers

  • Steven F. Warren Research Achievement Award, one of three annual KU awards that recognize outstanding unclassified academic staff, unclassified professional staff and postdoctoral fellows whose research has significantly influenced their fields and expanded intellectual or societal insights

     

Peggy Schultz

  • Received the John K. Strickler Award for 2022 from the Kansas Association for Environmental Education (KACEE) for initiating several educational programs for children and teachers in Kansas with funding from Kansas NSF EPSCoR, as well as her creation and leadership of the Ecosystems of Kansas Summer Institute for secondary science teachers, in addition to other prior and ongoing work.
