Research Summary:
The Kansas Water Office (KWO) performed a stabilization project on bends of the Neosho River west of the town of Neosho Rapids in order to reduce sediment delivery into John Redmond Reservoir. However, the US Fish and Wildlife Service deemed this construction as possibly harmful to the federally threatened Neosho madtom (Noturus placidus) (USFWS 2010). Also, the construction of weirs created deep water habitat suitable for flathead catfish (Pylodictis olivaris) that may then predate on the madtom. Thus KWO contracted the CPCB to perform post-construction monitoring in 2013. CPCB sampled the six monitoring sites for fish and substrate composition.
