Biography —
In addition to her academic pursuits, Aoesta takes an active interest in the advancement and protection of the rights of women and children as well as helping underserved minority communities in Kurdistan. She has contributed to many surveys on the subjects of human rights, economics, and political rights with Oxford International Institute, Ltd. In addition to her native Sorani Kurdish, she speaks English fluently and speaks Arabic at the advanced level.

Aoesta's areas of specialization include soil geography, geomorphology, and hydrology. Her research interests include:
- Soil structure-climate relationships
- Overcoming the limitation of qualitative descriptions of soil structure
- Predicting flood vulnerability in a developing urbanized environment
- Geographical distribution of soil color in relation with environmental factors in the U.S.
