KU researchers assisted the U.S. Geological Survey to update the taxonomy of four key groups of organisms in the USGS Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS). ITIS is a collaborative effort among federal agencies to provide an integrated, single source for scientific and common names, and a synonymized classification for living organisms. KU researchers worked with taxonomic experts on North American bryophytes, oligochaetes, arachnids, and fungi to transform their nomenclatural data into ITIS-compliant data files.
