LAWRENCE — Monarch Watch, based at the University of Kansas, will host a screening of the 2018 documentary "The Guardians," followed by a discussion with Orley "Chip Taylor," professor emeritus and director of Monarch Watch.
The screening will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Spencer Museum of Art. This movie is in Spanish with English subtitles.
Screened at numerous environmental film festivals, "The Guardians" follows an indigenous community in Mexico that confronts internal divisions and illegal loggers in order to recover the ancient forest they nearly destroyed. Like the millions of monarchs that also call this forest home, their survival depends on it.
The Spencer Museum's galleries will be open until 8 p.m. Exhibitions currently on display include "Larry Schwarm: Kansas Farmers," "The Ties that Bind: Haiti, the United States, and the Art of Ulrick Jean-Pierre in Comparative Perspective," "Soundings" and "Passage."
