Research Summary:
The objectives of this project were to:
- Identify candidate reference wetlands in Missouri using existing landscape-level data, and begin development of a quantitative, scientifically defensible method to determine candidate reference site conditions in Missouri wetlands. Geographic location of the wetlands was restricted to: The Western Corn Belt Plains, Central Irregular Plains, and Interior River Lowland ecoregions; and Missouri River floodplain and confluences of major tributaries associated with the above ecoregions.
- Conduct on-site water quality and biological sampling. We sampled wetlands in Missouri during the summers of 2015 and 2016 and examined water quality, plants, and macroinvertebrates.
- Validate reference site methodology and selection using water quality and biological data.
